Cleaning limits for this piece
- Stabilised: never clean in an ultrasonic tank or with steam, and keep away from solvents — the stabilising resin can lift.
- Porous stone: no ultrasonic, no steam, no soaking. Keep away from perfume, hairspray, cosmetics and household cleaners. Put it on last, take it off first.
- Mohs 5 – 6: this stone is softer than household dust, so it will scuff if it is rubbed against harder surfaces. Store it separately, not loose in a jewellery box.

About this piece
Natural turquoise, stabilised. Turquoise is porous — a hydrated copper aluminium phosphate at Mohs 5 to 6 — and the large majority of what reaches the market has been impregnated with resin so it is hard enough to cut, set and wear. That is stabilisation, it is declared here, and it is not the same thing as dyeing: the colour of this stone is its own. Stabilised material must never meet an ultrasonic tank, steam or solvents.

4 / 5
Stabilised and it says so. Matrix veining on mine is heavier than the photograph, which I actually prefer. Sizing was accurate against the UK letter chart.
