About this piece

Peridot's green is idiochromatic — it comes from iron in the crystal structure itself, not from a trace impurity — which is why peridot is only ever green, in a narrow band from yellow-green to olive. It is also strongly doubly refractive: look through the table at the back facets and you will see them doubled. Untreated, because there is no commercially useful treatment for the species.
